"The Truly Wild West"

Films: The Valley of Gwangi (1969)

Alias: El Diablo the Eohippus, Pteranodon, Ornithomimus, Gwangi, Styracosaurus

Type: Ancient

Location: Desert/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: From that of a housecat to twice that of an elephant.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: Imagine for a moment if someone watched "King Kong", and thought that the dinosaurs needed to be the stars rather than the big ape. But wait! It doesn't end there! Throw in some cowboys, Ray Harryhausen, and hot dino-wrangling action and you have quite possibly the coolest thing brought to 60s cinema.

History: For a struggling rodeo, the answer to their woes lied in El Diablo...who was a miniature horse known as an Eohippus. Kinda overselling it there, guys. Either way, a gypsy group believed El Diablo to be a cursed beast, having hailed from Forbidden Valley, so they send it back to its domain. The cowboys decide to reclaim their prize, but then they realize just why they call this prehistoric wasteland "Forbidden Valley", especially when they encounter its head honcho: an ornery Allosaurus named Gwangi.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: El Diablo gets off scott-free, the Pteranodon gets its neck snapped by a cowboy, the Ornithomimus gets chomped by Gwangi, who kills the Styracosaurus as well. As for him, he gets carted to be put on display, escapes with gypsy help, kills an elephant, rampages, and gets locked in a burning church to die.

Powers/Abilities: None.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-While not unkillable, Gwangi establishes himself as quite the prehistoric bruiser, being able to take a lot of damage while dishing out a lot of damage. The rest range from those to be wary of (Pteranodon) to being just plain cute (Eohippus).

Trivia: -The Eohippus, whose name means "Dawn Horse", was first uncovered in 1876, and is considered one of the oldest relatives of the horse.

-This film was originally going to be made by Ray Harryhausen's mentor, Willis O' Brian. But he died before realizing his vision, leaving Ray to fulfil his masters dying wish.

REMAKE THIS PROPERLY. NOW!

"Somehow, I know this is going to be BIG one day..."

The Pterodactyls are coming!

The transition to starhood was one that Gwangi wasn't prepared for.

Behold! The Allokylosaurus!

Consider this a Tier 1 dino.

"Urge to kill...rising..."

Logically, that horn would be longer and sharper. Gwangi's mouth would be grossly unprepared.

"GOT YOUR NOSE!"

Metal Gear: Patriots of the Stone Age.

A most cruel fate...in a church, no less.
Nows not the time for a stroll.

The king of the land shows himself at last.

Attendence kind of went down hard.

This is just embaressing.

Prehistoric roadkill.

Gwangi's worst foe: Erosion.

"WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?!"
